6.334 Miles of Milling and Plant Mix Resurfacing on Sr 124 Beginning North of Csx Railroad Crossing and Extending to the Gwinnett County Line. A pedestrian walkway shall not be severed or relocated for non-construction activities, such as parking for construction vehicles and equipment. Movement by construction vehicles and equipment across designated pedestrian walkways should be minimized. When necessary, construction activities shall be controlled by flaggers. Pedestrian walkways shall be kept free of mud, loose gravel or other debris. A smooth, continuous hard surface (firm, stable and slip resistant) shall be provided throughout the entire length of the temporary pedestrian facility. Compacted soils, sand, crushed stone or asphaltic pavement millings shall not be used as a surface course for walkways. When the removal and installation of guardrail is required, as a part of the work, the following time restrictions shall apply unless modified by the special conditions: From the time that the existing guardrail or temporary positive barrier protection is removed, the Contractor has fourteen (14) days to install the new guardrail and anchors. During the interim, the location without guardrail shall be protected with drums spaced at a maximum spacing of twenty feet (20’). The guardrail blunt end is to be treated as a fix object and shall be projected. The maximum length of rail that can be removed at any time without being replaced with positive barrier protection is a total of 2000 linear feet of existing rail or the total length of one run of existing rail, whichever is less. Based on existing field conditions, the Engineer may review the work and require that the guardrail be installed earlier than the maximum time allowed. Advanced Warning Signs on State Routes shall be a minimum dimension of forty-eight inches by forty-eight inches (48” x 48”). When a State Route intersects a project which consists of adding travel lanes, reconstructing an existing roadway or new location work, the State Route approaches shall have a minimum of three (W20-1) advanced warning signs (1500 ft., 1000 ft., 500 ft.). The termination end of an intersecting State Route shall have End Road Work signage. This project encouraged MBE/WBE participation.
