Living Shoreline Bank Stabilization-Rebid Project, Brunswick GA

Glynn County

Owner Reference: 46200-DNR0000601

Bid Date: 04/03/2020 at 03:00pm

The tidal wetlands/waters aspect of the project will involve filling and grading a highly erosional bank, nearly 14’ tall, to an appropriate slope, down to the low water mark where a concrete rubble toe will be placed for support. The graded slope will then be secured with bags of multiple layers of oyster shell to stabilize the slope and promote future oyster recruitment and native plantings. At the top of the erosional bank, there are several large oak trees that will need to be preserved as well as the home used to house the caretaker. In addition, on the erosional bank at both lower and mid intertidal slope, there are remnants of an old bulkhead, pilings, and natural debris (i.e. fallen trees). The bulkhead, old pilings and natural debris will need to be removed for construction of the living shoreline. There are some areas where equipment could be staged along the upland. However, the awarded contractor should not consider this area for a significant amount of storage or use and should anticipate that much of the work will need to completed from the water. For a comprehensive description of the work, please see the attached detailed engineering plans. Due to the sensitive nature of the surrounding marsh and erosional bank, great care will need to be taken to ensure no impacts occur outside of the construction area. Attention to detail and good communications skills will be a must for the awardee. Please note that the awarded contractor is expected to enter into an agreement with the LCIHA, who is the private landowner of the upland portion of the living shoreline project area.
