The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Morehead Planetarium and Science Center (MPSC) seeks lighting integration and installation services for two new exhibitions and several visitor-oriented spaces within our soon-to-be renovated building. This project seeks to reinvent the on-site visitor experience and requires lighting for the following spaces: 1. New west-facing entrance and admission lobby 2. “Gateway Gallery” a new permanent exhibit in existing Rotunda space (~1,500 sq. ft.) 3. “Breakthrough Hub: A Lab to Life Exhibit” a new semi-permanent exhibit in lower-level (~2,300 sq. ft.) 4. “Launch Lab” a new maker space 5. New retail shop Working in close collaboration, MPSC leadership, partners, and the California-based design firm Mycotoo, Inc. have established a vision and designs to guide Morehead into the future. The designs include updates inside and outside the building, better wayfinding, a more intuitive visitor flow, a stronger overarching story line, renovated visitor spaces and immersive and engaging interactive exhibits. We seek a talented, organized, and experienced lighting team who, in coordination with MPSC staff and Mycotoo, will complete the first phase of our interpretive renovation by integrating and installing the lighting components that follow our design intent. Exhibit fabrication and installation will occur in the months following the completion of the lighting phase. This project encouraged MBE/WBE participation.
