RFP - Relocation of Occupied Graves (Hurricane Florence) Project, Fayetteville NC

Cumberland County

Owner Reference: COF1516388

Bid Date: 06/18/2019 at 05:00pm

Due to the severe flooding a significant section of creek bank sheared off and was carried down Cross Creek in the flood waters. The impact and subsequent shearing of the bank of Cross Creek adjacent to Cemetery No. 3 left a row of grave sites much closer to the new top of bank and they are now compromised. If the occupied graves are not moved in a reasonable time they will be subject to future shearing due to heavy rains or other storm events. The City finds it necessary at this time to relocate the 77 occupied graves to a more secure location to reduce the risk of these graves being lost to further erosion. It is the intent of the City of Fayetteville to engage a well-qualified, compassionate, licensed and certified Funeral Home to carry out the delicate work of disinterring the 77 impacted graves and re-interring them in another City-owned cemetery close by. The disinterment and removal shall be made under the supervision and direction of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners or other appropriate official, including the Cumberland County Health Director, appointed by Cumberland County Board of Commissioners. The disinterment, and the re-interment shall be made under the supervision and direction of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners or other appropriate official, including the Cumberland County Health Director. This project encouraged MBE/WBE participation.
