The project objectives include: Expand the existing Convention Center to create an adaptable and flexible modern meeting space, with modern amenities to support meetings, shows and events. Incorporate functional design and technology to create a modern meeting space that enhances the Convention Center’s operations, and ability to attract and host meetings, shows and events. Provide accessibility between the expansion and the multiple building levels, venue spaces and outdoor terrace. Engage the Convention Center’s architectural significance and unique location on the City’s downtown riverfront. Expand the existing terrace westward toward and over the river to provide ample outdoor space for Convention Center events and public access to the riverfront and south to the property line extending the existing terrace. Prepare the terrace for a future connection in the Genesee Riverway Trail promenade extension to Broad Street, as envisioned in the ROC the Riverway initiative. Reconstruct and/or replace the existing river wall to address the full extent of current structural deterioration, defects and needs of the building/terrace addition. The project will involve coordination with the City of Rochester Department of Environmental Services, Architectural Services Division project management team, and project advisory committee team members and stakeholders consisting of but not limited to Convention Center representatives, grant agencies, and other regulatory agencies during design and construction. This project encouraged MBE/WBE participation.
