The Contractor shall furnish all supervision, labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals necessary to accomplish the work in accordance with the Contract. The work generally consists of vegetation work in the SMUD transmission right of ways (ROW) in Sacramento County, El Dorado County, and Placer County on a task order basis. Goals of the operation are to remove vegetation that could grow or fall to within safety distances to the transmission lines and reduce fuels minimizing the potential effects of a wildfire. Brush and trees within the Wire Zone, the area under the wires extending out 25 feet, will be removed. The Border Zone, area from the edge of the wire zone to the edge of the ROW, will have vegetation removed to create distance between crowns of 15 to 20 feet resulting in tree spacing of 30 to 40 feet. Brush and slash up to 16” diameter will be chipped with chips broadcast on site. Material larger than 6” diameter will be left on site and bucked so 90% of length is in contact with the ground. Ladder fuels will be removed by pruning limbs up to 10 feet. Brush will be removed except for elderberries. All sprouting species will be treated with herbicide to prevent re-sprouting. Along watercourses with habitat to support aquatic vegetation the following procedures will be followed. On areas with slopes less than 50% a 50 foot zone will be established and on slopes greater than 50% a 75 foot zone. Equipment will be excluded from this zone except for on existing roads and crossings. No equipment will be allowed to operate in water if present at crossings. Within this zone trees to be removed will be targeted that could eventually grow or fall within the safety zone of the transmission lines. Work within the zone will maintain a 50% crown canopy closure. 51 feet along ephemeral watercourses treatment will maintain 50% vegetation cover and the channel will be protected. No material will be allowed within the high water mark of the watercourses and all material will be stabilized to insure it will not roll into the watercourse. Any dirt or material entering the channel will be cleaned prior to the end of the day of deposition. See attached.
