Kershaw County

Owner Reference: P039961

Bid Date: 11/10/2020 at 02:00pm

Notice is hereby given that the SCDOT will accept electronic bid proposals for the highway improvements. The work on this project consists of providing and applying thermoplastic pavement markings on an estimated total of 46 miles of primary and secondary routes on the Federal Aid System. These routes are located in Engineering District 5. On two lane roads where surface mounted yellow bi-directional markers are in place, the existing markers shall be removed and replaced regardless of condition. On multilane roads, existing surface mounted yellow mono-directional and bi-directional markers along the median or centerline are to be removed and replaced regardless of condition. The existing raised markers are to be removed to prevent obstruction of the new markers. Along the centerline or median edgeline (two way left turn lanes) of multilane routes where raised markers are used in pairs, the new pair of markers should be placed adjacent to one another as illustrated on page 630-210-00 of the standard drawings. On the medians of multilane routes, if only older recessed markers exist, the new surface mounted markers are to be placed immediately preceding the existing slot (in the direction of traffic). The Contractor will not be required to remove the existing markers in the slots. On lane lines of multilane roads where old clear mono-directional surface mounted markers are in place, removal of the existing surface mounted markers will be required. The new clear mono-directional markers are to be placed at 80 foot spacing and are to be placed mid way between existing broken white lines as shown on page 630-210-00 of the standard drawings. Where only recessed markers exist, the new markers are to be placed between the lane lines where no slots exist. The Contractor will not be required to remove the existing markers in the slots. Removal of existing surface mounted markers shall be accomplished by a method approved by the Engineer. Any damage to the pavement surface resulting from removal which the Engineer determines to be excessive shall be repaired by the Contractor at his own expense. No separate payment will be made for removal of existing markers. All costs incurred as a result of removing existing surface mounted markers should be included in the bid unit price for placement of the new markers. Bond is required please refer to documents for further details. This project encouraged DBE participation.
