Project #1 – Replace existing electronic message sign that faces onto Hwy 321. Existing sign is an electronic message sign located on Hwy 321. The existing LED electronic message sign (approximately 44“ by 88“) will be removed and discarded by contractor. The “Gaston College” header panel sign will be refurbished and reused. The new electronic message sign will be from one of two manufacturers: Daktronics or WatchFire. The new sign will be two sided, is to be approximately 56” by 113” (sizes are nominal) and will be full color (RGB) with 19.8mm or less pixel pitch. Sign shall come with a lifetime cellular connection/communication plan. Sign will be installed onto the existing brick base and internal steel structure, modified as needed by contractor to fit new sign. Installation shall include all necessary labor and materials needed to insure full operation and communication of sign at completion. Once complete, the ends of the signs, along with the top and bottom, shall be enclosed using minimum .063 thickness black aluminum, similar to the type of enclosure now in place. Contractor will provide a rendering and specifications for the new sign. Price quoted will be all-inclusive of sign cost and all labor for modification of base and installation of sign. Contractor will provide customer training on software that operates the sign. Contractor will provide a five-year warranty on parts and one-year warranty on parts and labor sign. Contractor will be responsible for attaining all permits from Town of Dallas and for conforming to town signage regulations. Project #2 Refurbish two existing monument-style signs on campus. Sign #1 is a monument-style sign at the entrance to the college off Dallas-Cherryville Hwy. This sign will be two sided, all aluminum construction, manufactured from standard extruded materials having wall thickness no less than .125”. The lettering is to be of .25” thick aluminum, routed, waterjet or plasma cut, to read “Gaston College”. In the recessed areas of the existing brick columns, there will be New ¼” aluminum plate letters reading GC, in custom logo style text (four required). All exposed aluminum to be sanded, etched primed and painted using such materials as have been specially formulated for adherence to aluminum. The existing sign is to be removed and discarded by contractor as needed. The existing brick base and columns are to be refurbished, painted entirely (color TBD) and will have new precast caps added to each column. Caps to be similar in size and shape to those on the wall at the college entrance round-about. Once the brick structure is refurbished the new sign can be installed using appropriate fasteners, set in two-part epoxy as needed. Installation shall include all necessary labor and materials needed to complete sign demolition and reinstallation. Sign #2 is a monument-style sign at the Clock Tower on Tower Blvd, and is one sided only. This sign shall be manufactured to the same specifications as sign #2, with precast caps along with the custom GC text, the same painting and attachment methods as specified on Sign #2. Installation shall include all necessary labor and materials needed to complete sign demolition and reinstallation. This project encouraged MBE/WBE participation.
