This project involves the restoration of a stone masonry chimney on the roof of Lehman College’s Music Building. The Music Building is on the register as a historic building therefore the restoration of this chimney is critical to maintain the historic value of the building. The chimney requiring restoration services the exhaust stack from the boiler room along with steam condensate relief piping. These mechanical service pipes need to be maintained and in service while the chimney restoration is in progress. This project will require a signed/sealed engineered scaffold system which will need to be filed with NYC Dept. of Buildings. Scope of Work (Demolition): Hazardous material abatement required. Install temporary protection & structural support for existing flue and associated vents/piping. Deconstruct upper 28 feet+/- of existing limestone clad chimney and structural elements. Catalog, clean and store all existing limestone units for reinstallation. Remove and store existing SS chimney cap. Remove and store all sheet metal louvers and decorative panels. Replace in-kind damaged/deteriorated limestone units. Scope of Work (Reconstruction): Repair limestone units as indicated on documents and specified by Architect. Install new stainless steel frame assembly. Reinstall original limestone cladding as indicated. Reinstall replacement limestone units. Reinstall louvers and stamped panels. Reinstall existing chimney cap and associated utilities previously existing. Contractor must be experienced in documenting and cataloging by elevation the location of each piece of stone and other construction elements for the entire existing structure. MBE goal is 5%, WBE goal is 5%, and SDVOB goal is 6%. Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
