The proposed project will include the replacement of an existing PVC water main, access management, and resurfacing within the project limits, which extends approximately one and six-tenths (1.6) miles from Pine Island Road to Santa Barbara Boulevard. The access management portion of the project involves closing some of the current median openings on Nicholas Parkway, adding left turn lanes at the remaining median openings, and installing curb and gutter adjacent to the medians along the length of the project. Through the access management process, the goal is to reduce the potential conflict points. Other transportation and drainage related improvements include: Pavement resurfacing; Pavement reconstruction, as needed; Updated pavement markings and signage; and drainage upgrades and swale work, as needed. The Utility work is generally comprised of the replacement of the existing 8-inch water main with approximately 6,731 linear feet of new 12” ductile iron water main, approximately 1,697 linear feet of new 8” ductile iron water main, 156 linear feet of 16” ductile iron water main, and 343 linear feet of 12” HDPE pipe installed via horizontal direction drill under the Kennedy Canal. The new water main will be complete with new valves, associated fittings, as well as new service laterals (1” PE and 2” PE) connected to existing water meters. Existing fire hydrants will be replaced, and additional new fire hydrants will be installed within the project area.
