The Mundelein Wastewater Treatment Facility is a 4.95 mgd facility with raw wastewater screening, aerated grit removal, primary clarifiers, activated sludge treatment, final clarifiers, chlorination, dechlorination, anaerobic digester, and belt filter press dewatering. The facility also has sludge drying beds and covered sludge storage. Anaerobic digestion of the sludge proceeds with feeding Digester No. 1 a mixture of primary sludge and waste activated sludge. Sludge is transferred from Digester No. 1 to Digester No. 2 by pumping. Typically only Digester No. 1 is heated but the heat exchanger can also heat Digester No. 2. Only one digester at a time can be heated. The Contractor shall furnish and provide all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and machinery necessary to perform and complete in a good and workmanlike manner the work required for: Digester Sludge Removal and Cleaning Services This Contract includes removal and disposal of the contents of Digester No. 1 and cleaning of the empty digester. Refer to the attached specification for requirements of this work. After the digester has been emptied and cleaned the Village plans to inspect the digester lid and piping. The time the Village will need for their planned activities is one week. The work under this section shall consist of providing all work, materials, labor, equipment, and supervision necessary to provide for the removal, handling, and disposal of sludge, bio solids, and other materials and debris in the 85-foot diameter anaerobic digester (Digesters No. 1). “Sewage sludge” or “sludge” or “bio solids” means the solid, semi-solid or liquid residue generated during the anaerobic treatment of wastewater solids. “Debris” means material other than bio solids such as wood and plastic items that has accumulated in the digesters. The work also includes cleaning of the digesters following removal of all digester material and cleaning and removal of any blockages (if required) of piping in the digesters.
