The project will introduce median and shoulder landscapes using low-maintenance, drought-tolerant plants capable of thriving in challenging conditions, such as wind, pollution, and potential vehicle damage. Additional upgrades will include new streetlights, City-approved road signage, an efficient irrigation system, improvements to the layout of the existing avenue, and a surface positive stormwater drainage system. Careful consideration will be given to the placement and maintenance of the plants throughout the project. As part of the redesign, a Class 1 bike trail will need to be incorporated on the south side of the expressway along the stretch from Dale Road to McHenry Avenue. A traffic study will be needed to determine future decisions for changes to the avenue to accommodate for a Class 1 bike path, median locations, and provide design recommendations for the uncontrolled intersections at Blue Bird Drive and Honey Creek Road. Additionally, a streetlight analysis will also be required to determine future street lighting throughout the avenue.
