The city provides drop-off collection of commingled and source-separated recyclable materials from its residents and businesses and needs a convenient way to process such recyclable materials. Currently, the city's Sanitation Department collects mixed paper, mixed containers, sorted glass and cardboard from residents at drop-off centers. Drop-off materials are collected by the Sanitation Department by roll-off trucks. Cardboard only is collected in commercial front-end loaders. All the mixed paper, mixed containers, sorted glass, and cardboard are collected and transported by the city's Sanitation Department to a third party's facility centrally located for sorting and recycling. Last year the Sanitation Department collected 236 tons of mixed paper, 83.69 tons of mixed containers, 86.45 tons of sorted glass, and 1,234 tons of cardboard. Bonds required.
