Description
Vegetation treatments in the Mill Creek (from the West Slope WUI Decision Notice/FONSI) area are designed to reduce the continuity of the fuels and promote fire behavior consistent with the fire behavior prediction system fuel model 8. The idea is to increase the crown spacing to keep a wildfire on the ground where it is more easily managed by wildland fire fighting resources. Pinyon and juniper trees and sprouting shrub species (Gambel oak, serviceberry and birchleaf mountain-mahogany) will be the vegetative species
focused on in this project. Piling will focus on the limbs and brush, not the trunks of trees over 6” in diameter. Services in this task order will be to cut and pile pinyon and juniper (P-J) trees and thin dense pockets of late seral sprouting shrub species by hand thinning (with chainsaws), within 845 acres (13 units) in the Mill Creek area. The contractor will furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, operating supplies, and incidentals to complete the work within the units. The project vicinity and treatment areas are identified on the project map. Acreage: Approx. 845 acres. Bonds required.
