Description

The 2022 pavement preservation program consists of preserving 80,000+ square yards (SY) of roadway utilizing tire rubber modified surface seal (TRMSS), 200,000+ SY of polymer modified master seal (PMM), 80,000+ SY of rubberized pre-coated chip seal and the removal and replacement of 2,000 LF of existing roadway. There is also an application of 150,000 pounds of crack seal. Bid alternates will include pricing for parking lot resurfacing (chip seal and new asphalt) and an additional PMM location. The crack seal portion of this contract shall seal all cracks up to 1.5” in width on the following arterial and rural collector streets: Twin Peaks Rd. from Saguaro Highlands Dr. to Sanders Rd.; Emigh Rd.; Sanders Rd. between Emigh Rd. and Twin Peaks Rd.; Sandario Rd. between I-10 frontage and Moore Rd; The application of crack seal shall continue until the quantities are exhausted. If quantities are not exhausted, additional arterial roads will be added. Moving lane closures are required. Crack sealing shall be completed in the fall; it is permissible to have the remainder of the applications completed in the spring. Decker Rd. and a portion of Potvin Ln. will be rehabilitated as part of this contract. The work is referred to as Decker Rd. even though it includes a section of Potvin Ln. Currently Decker Rd.is comprised of 1,320 LF of chip seal and 700 LF of unpaved roadway. The existing chip seal (approximately 1/2” thick) on Decker is to be removed and the entire length (within Town Limits – 2,000 LF) to be paved, 25 feet wide, with 2.5” of PAG 1 arterial mix placed on existing grade compacted to 95%. The contractor is responsible for investigating the depth of the existing paved roadway prior to bidding and basing the bid thereon. No compensation will be provided for a claim the depth of the existing pavement is greater than ½”. Concrete ford walls (1’x4’) x 400 LF will be placed at wash crossings and the transition point between the new pavement and existing county dirt road. Decker must remain open to traffic at all times. The contractor shall not grade a crown section through the points where drainage crosses the road. Instead, the roadway shall be straight-graded to provide positive drainage across the roadway. The chip seal work to be performed on AZ Pavilions Dr. between Courtney Page Way and Burlingame Rd. must be completed at night due to heavy traffic volumes. It will be permissible to apply all other areas during daylight hours. Bid alternates: Bid alternative A is a stand-alone price request for a PMM application in the Adonis Subdivision. Bid alternative B is the price to chip seal the existing parking area at the Marana Operations Center. There is approximately 80 SY of patches contained in an approximate 12x60 foot area that will be removed and patched prior to chip seal operations. Bid alternate price is to include the restriping of the parking lot and legends. Removal and replacement of existing curb stops shall be considered incidental. Bid alternative C is the removal and replacement of the asphalt parking lot at Marana’s Operation Center with 2.5” of PAG 2. The existing thickness is approximately 2”. (The contractor is responsible for determining the exact thickness and basing the bid thereon. No additional compensation will be provided for a claim that existing asphalt thickness is greater than 2”.) Clean parking lot millings can be disposed on site. The legal disposal of millings that have not been adequately milled will be the responsibility of the contractor. Bid alternate price is to include the restriping of the parking lot and legends. Removal and replacement of existing curb stops shall be considered incidental. The project will have a 120 calendar day construction time. Deadline for questions is August 25, 2021 by 3:00pm. Bonds
