Advanced Bioretention System Installation, Richmond, VA

The intent of this project is to treat runoff from a portion of the new parking deck under construction at the Science Museum of Virginia (SMV) site in Richmond, Virginia. The goal of this project is to install a state-of the-art nitrogen and phosphorus removal system (known as an Advanced Bioretention System, or ABS) to largely eliminate these nutrients from runoff and restore a more natural hydrology consistent with the goals of Low Impact Development (LID) practice. The proposed project will result in the retrofit of a highly visible facility with an advanced treatment system. After installation, the project will be monitored to demonstrate its effectiveness, and an outreach/training program will subsequently be developed. Currently, we anticipate this project to begin in mid to late September, and take approximately 2-3 weeks to complete.
