Description
The project consists of furnishing all labor, equipment, and materials necessary to complete construction
of the Birch Street Bridge Replacement Project in accordance with the project plans and specifications.
This includes, but is not limited to, the following key tasks:
A. Perform removals to clear the site for construction including, but not limited to, asphalt
pavement, the existing bridge, bridge abutments (including pile cutoff if encountered), guardrails,
and signage.
B. Construct a temporary access drive around the work area in order to maintain access throughout
construction.
C. Support existing natural gas and communication utilities where passing through the bridge area
and its open excavation.
D. Replace an existing sanitary sewer main beneath and adjacent to the new bridge. This
replacement will follow the same alignment and will require bypass pumping of sewer flows
throughout construction. This line conveys sewer flows from approximately 30 single family
residences (<250 gpm).
E. Replace and upsize an existing asbestos cement waterline beneath and adjacent to the new
bridge. This will follow the same general alignment of the existing line and will require temporary
bypass and frost protection of the temporary line throughout construction.
F. Construct a new pre-fabricated aluminum box culvert and associated headwalls, wingwalls, and
foundation. This includes, but is not limited to, excavation, subgrade prep, foundation prep, and
backfill as necessary for construction.
G. Install empty fiber optic conduits with hand-hole vaults across the project area.
H. Reconstruct the roadway base and pave with hot mix asphalt.
I. Remove and replace road signage.
J. Implement stormwater management, traffic control, water management, site security, site
restoration, and quality control testing as required to complete the work in accordance with the
plans and specifications.
