Description

Complete a fire mitigation and pedestrian safety improvement project along a portion on the southern border to the BackCountry Community. This improved buffer will serve as natural separation between residential structures and 399 plus acres of open space and grasslands to the south. The wild land area directly to the south of the project site is owned and managed by BackCountry and has been and will continue to be subject to a reoccurring threat of catching fire. When these fires occur, they represent a major threat to the health and safety of the community. In order to help maintain a sense of well being and security for residents, Gambel Oak mitigation will also be taking place along much of this corridor. Gambel Oak control is not a part of this project. The project consists of approximately 4,144 lf of 4” thick, 6’ wide concrete pedestrian trail along Skydance Drive. The trail begins at the existing Trailhead Parking Lot, just east of the Sundial House, and ends at a short pedestrian bridge on Greycliffe Drive. The project will include grading and creation of a sub-base for the new trail using the current alignment of the existing crusher fines trail. It also includes street shoulder improvements along Skydance Drive, and Greycliffe Drive along with the addition of four extended areas of irrigated turf grass sod. The project also includes a number of short paved pedestrian crossings between the new trail and the adjoining street and gravel pull out area at the Mail Station on Skydance. There are also storm drainage considerations, signing and marking, traffic control, erosion and sediment control (installation, maintenance, and removal of erosion and sediment control BMP’s), construction staging, and coordination with the project manager, committee members, and property owners.
