Description
The Division of Wildlife Resources is in need of removal of an irrigation diversion and replaced with new diversion with a screen and fish passable structure in Box Elder County, UT. Construction services for removal and replacement of irrigation diversion and screen according to Attachment B - Scope of Work. The Bluehead Sucker in the Snake River and Bonneville Basin Drainages has been identified as a unique species from the larger more robust populations in the Colorado River Drainage. As such it will have a target on its back for ESA listing in future years and as such all populations are important to mitigate the chance that they become listed. That is where this project comes in. Connected habitat is important for this species as they are known migrators and this drainage is affected by drought and water use. Multiple barriers to movement exist and removing them will be key to protecting the species in this drainage. Additionally, Irrigation diversion entrainment is detrimental to fish populations and screening diversions can save the lives of many fish each year. This diversion has been identified as an important step in restoring the upper portion of the South Fork Junction Creek drainage to fish movement. It is also the largest diversion in the area and likely accounts for significant entrainment of all fish species present. Scope of Work: Manufacture Rotary Drum Screen Rotary drum screen powered by paddle wheel will be manufactured to the engineer’s specifications as it scales to the stream. Remove Old diversion structure. Old diversion structure will be removed Install screen and diversion structure Screen is to be installed off channel Diversion will be installed from pre cast concrete with a fabricated head gate Screened water will be sent to a flow split structure where it can be sent through a ditch or into a pipe to a ditch on the other side of the stream, or both locations at once. Realign and grade stream to make fish passable On site and adjacent quarry material to be used to build stream bed up to the elevation of the diversion Once the screen is manufactured, installation should take approximately 2- 3 weeks. Work can begin as early as awarded and must be completed by end of April 2022. The important aspect will be to find a period of time between these dates that allow for Low Flow in the creek and above freezing daytime temperatures to allow for excavation and placing of material. Requirements: Task 1 – Sub Contract manufacturing of Rotary drum screen Task 2 – Prepare Site area Task 3 – Install Screen and diversion structures Task 4 – build up stream to level with diversion Task 5 – Site repair and clean up
