Landscape Planting and Enhancement, Bailey NC

This project is for landscape planting and establishment on the right of way of US 264 in Nash County near Bailey. The Contractor shall provide all materials, labor, equipment and traffic control to satisfactorily complete the work of installing bulbs and native grasses, on the project as specified. During the initial planting period the areas intended for the installation of the ornamental plantings will require some bed preparation. The entire bed areas will be sprayed out with post-emergence prior to tillage. The Contractor shall successfully treat bed areas with herbicide as needed until all visible, actively growing, non-desirable plant material has been eliminated from the bed areas. Clumps of vegetation either dead or alive must be removed prior to installation of ornamental plants. Appropriate measures should be taken to lay out the location for the correct installation of ornamental Page 28 of 64 plants as shown on the plans. Prior to installation the State Inspector should be notified for a site review. The cost for bed preparation shall be considered in the price for ornamental plant installation. There will be no direct compensation for bed preparation. Post-emergent herbicides will be paid for as described in the Standard Specifications. After completion of the initial planting period, pre-emergent herbicides shall be used to control warm season and winter annuals. The Contractor will apply pre-emergence herbicides to all plant beds, trees, and shrub mulch rings after mulching has been completed. Daffodil plantings included. Before applying, the type and rate of herbicide to be used will be approved by the engineer or the inspector. Pre-emergent herbicides will be paid for as described in the Standard Specifications.
