Description
Twin 72” Interceptor Replacement and Rehabilitation
This project involves the removal of approximately 17,900 LF of 72-inch sanitary sewer pipe and
replacement with 72” and 78” sanitary sewer pipe via open cut methods and approximately 1,500’ of 72”
CIPP between Walnut Creek Pump Station and Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility (NRRRF) along
the Neuse River in Wake County, North Carolina. The project also requires the removal, bypassing,
inspection, and reinstallation of portions of the existing 24” and 16” reclaimed water pipeline, sewage
bypassing, manhole rehabilitation, manhole replacements, “In-situ” point repairs, forcemain abandonment,
installation of a sewer plug valve vault, replacement of 3 CMP arch culverts with RCP box culverts,
construction in easements and residential areas, construction near an active greenway and golf course, and
grading and drainage improvements. The total estimated cost of construction is $52.5 million. This project
is expected to advertise for construction in the Fall of 2021 and the construction contract period is expected
to be 540 days.
Upper West Neuse Interceptor Replacement
This project involves the construction of approximately 12,000 LF of 60-inch sanitary sewer pipe along
the Neuse River in Wake County, with the downstream end of the project located near the confluence of
Beaverdam Creek and the Neuse River. The project requires one open cut crossing of the Neuse River,
two trenchless crossings beneath NCDOT roadways, construction in residential areas, construction along
an active greenway, and construction in floodplain areas. The total estimated cost of construction is $15
million. This project is expected to advertise for construction in the Summer of 2022 and the construction
contract period is expected to be 360 days.
Crabtree Interceptor Phase 3 Improvements
This project involves the installation of approximately 18,000 LF of 54-, 48-, 42-, 36-, 24-,12-, 8- and 4-
inch gravity sewer, ranging up to 38 feet in depth. Installation methods include open cut, bore and jack, and
dual pass micro-tunneling. This project also includes incidental replacement of approximately 250 LF of
12-inch water line and appurtenances and 1,400 LF of 8- to 30-inch storm sewer pipeline, inlets, and other
storm water devices. The project will involve sewage bypassing; sewer pipeline and manhole abandonment;
aerial sewer abandonment; incidental utility relocation for telecom, electric, and other buried utilities lines;
stream crossing restoration; road replacement; handling of contaminated materials and groundwater; traffic
control; construction in easements, commercial areas, and residential areas; vibration monitoring;
temporary fencing; erosion & sediment control measures; and other incidental items to make a complete
project. The total estimated cost of construction is $44.2 million. This project is expected to advertise for
construction in the Summer of 2022 and the construction contract period is expected to be 730 days.
