EB SR-91 Atlantic to Cherry Improvements, Long Beach, CA

The project is in the City of Long Beach and adjacent to the City of Paramount in Los Angeles County, California consisting of an auxiliary lane on Eastbound State Route 91 within a 1.4-mile segment from the Southbound Interstate 710 to EB SR-91 connector, to Cherry Avenue. The proposed improvements include: Widening the eastbound SR-91 from Atlantic Avenue to Cherry Avenue to add an auxiliary lane. The proposed improvements require modifications of the following bridges, which will be widened on the south side to accommodate the proposed auxiliary lane: Atlantic Avenue Undercrossing, Myrtle Avenue Undercrossing, Orange Avenue Undercrossing, and Walnut Avenue Undercrossing. Retaining walls and sound walls will be constructed. Eliminating the lane drop merge at the gore of the SB I-710 to eastbound SR-91 connector by restriping to a two-lane connector with one of the lanes becoming the added auxiliary lane. Reconfiguring the eastbound on-ramp from Atlantic Avenue and eastbound off-ramp to Cherry Avenue to accommodate the addition of the auxiliary lane. There are hazardous waste materials to be handled on the project as listed in the contract documents, which include but are not limited to the removal and disposal of: Yellow lead-based paint, thermoplastic paint traffic stripe, and/or pavement markings; Treated wood waste and; Materials containing lead and/or asbestos. DBE goal is 22%.
