Geotechnical Services for El Morro TK and Kindergarten Modernization Project, Laguna Beach, CA

The purpose of this report is to evaluate the geological and seismological hazards of the project site area for the modernization and seismic retrofit of two existing classroom buildings, and provide relevant geotechnical design parameters and recommendations to aid in the design and construction of the proposed building project. The primary objective of the project is the modernization of the Kindergarten and TK facilities, requiring a Geotechnical Investigation Report that is approved by CGS per the requirements of DSA to seismically retrofit a building. The improvements include interior modifications to classrooms, offices, restrooms, and support spaces, as well as upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The two structures are existing one-story classroom buildings, and no vertical expansion is anticipated. The proposed renovation is limited to these two one-story buildings and will include the addition of new shallow footings intended to support and supplement the existing foundations. The interaction between the new and existing foundation systems should be evaluated as part of the geotechnical investigation and recommendations.
