Description
The Interstate 10 Corridor Freight and Express Lane Project Contract 2B (Project), located in San Bernardino County, proposes to construct a single express lane with price-managed/tolled facilities in both directions of Interstate 10 (I-10) from approximately 0.3 miles east of Sierra Avenue to Pepper Avenue, with construction work through the cities of Ontario, Fontana, Rialto, and Colton (including unincorporated area), and the unincorporated community of Bloomington. The Project improvements consist of inside and outside roadway widening within the project limits and will require improvements to local access ramps. These improvements generally include: Addition of one Express Lane in each direction between Sierra Avenue and Pepper Avenue, Provide one Ingress/Egress (I/E) at-grade access location at Cedar Avenue, one Ingress at-grade crossing at Pepper Avenue in the WB direction only, and one Egress at-grade crossing at Pepper Avenue in the EB direction only, Coordination with SBCTA's Toll Service Provider (TSP) for tolling equipment, maintaining operations, and access to existing toll lanes throughout construction, Separation of general purpose (GP) lanes from the proposed express lane with a 2-footwide buffer and surface mounted channelizers, Improve existing auxiliary lanes, Extend the existing acceleration and deceleration lanes in the EB direction between Sierra Avenue and Cedar Avenue, and Construct a new auxiliary lane in each direction between Riverside Avenue and Pepper Avenue. The project proposes adding approximately 4.89 lane miles of new roadway and restriping 5.0 lane miles of existing roadway in each direction. Other project improvements include: Construction of an AT&T demarcation point connection on the southwest corner of Pepper Avenue and W. Valley Boulevard to a Type M cabinet on the northwest quadrant of Pepper Avenue interchange, Construction of California Highway Patrol (CHP) observation areas, Replacement of existing concrete barriers, temporary railings, metal beam guardrails, and metal thrie-beam barriers with standard safety systems, Construction of maintenance vehicle pullouts (MVP) at various locations, Modification of existing stormwater drainage channels, construction of new drainage facilities, and water quality Best Management Practices (BMPs), Construction of median lighting at express lane I/E and other select locations, Replacement of overhead sign structures and roadside signs, and Construction of retaining walls and sound walls.
