Description
City of Galveston is entertaining bids from professional monument and sculpture conservation concerns for the conservation treatment of The Heroes of the Texas Revolution Monument located at 25th & Broadway in the City of Galveston, TX. Summation or Outline of Scope of work: Design and erect engineered scaffold system and safety fencing for access and traffic safety. Provide documentation of the restoration methodology. Photographic documentation before, during and after treatment. Raking and repointing of all mortar joints. Installation of lead weather cap on all horizontal sky facing joints. Lead wool and lead shims at weight bearing stone joints as necessary for vibration control. Cleaning and patination of bronze art and plaques. Rinse sculpture and granite plinth with water. Rinse bronze again with water under high pressure of approximately 3,000psi. Wash bronze sculpture with sodium lauryl sulfate and rinse. Careful low-pressure cleaning of all stone surfaces using filtered water, D/2 and targeted poultice applications on the granite. Rinse sculpture and stone, repeat until deposits are removed. Warm bronze slowly to 280-300F with a wide brush torch and apply Ferric Nitrate solution to the bronze to create and even brown patina. Rinse bronze to remove excess chemical patina. Reheat bronze to 200F and apply hot wax mixture and blend with heat and brushes. Allow bronze to cool and buff the wax to a warm sheen. Execute patina and hot wax on the plaques first as an example before proceeding. Four applications of PROSOCO Conserver H100 on all stone surfaces following all stone treatments to harden and seal the granite. Dismantle scaffold, clean and demobilize. Compile JPEG and RAW photograph files and a written report in an archival format with archival paper and protective sleeves and on a gold archival DVD. Supply three copies 2 for the city and 1 for the city historical society.
