Description
Citrus County, Florida, owner and operator of the Crystal River Airport and Inverness Airport, is soliciting sealed bids for the replacement of the existing Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS) at both airport facilities. The existing systems at each airport consist of Vaisala equipment that has reached the end of its useful service life and requires full replacement. This project includes the procurement, installation, integration, calibration, and commissioning of complete AWOS III P/T systems at both locations. While all system components will be replaced, portions of the existing supporting infrastructure are anticipated to be reused, including: Existing concrete equipment pads Existing wind towers Existing conduit and electrical service The replacement systems must provide, at a minimum, the following observations and reporting capabilities: Wind speed, direction, gusts, and variable wind direction Temperature and dew point Altimeter setting and density altitude Visibility and variable visibility Precipitation accumulation Cloud height and sky condition Present weather identification Thunderstorm/lightning reporting All systems must comply with FAA guidance contained in Advisory Circular 150/5220-16E, Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS) for Non-Federal Applications, and must be listed on the FAAs Approved Non-Federal AWOS Systems and Manufacturers list (current as of January 14, 2026). Approved systems currently include: DBT Transportation Services LLC ADB SafeGate AWOS 3000 DBT Transportation Services LLC ADB SafeGate F1 AWOS Mesotech International AWA-30PT Page 2 The selected Contractor shall be responsible for furnishing all labor, materials, equipment, testing, calibration, and commissioning necessary to deliver fully operational systems at both airports. Upon completion, each system must be fully tested, verified, and demonstrated to be in proper working order in accordance with FAA requirements and manufacturer specifications.
