This contract is for the repair of damaged steel bridge beams as shown on the Structure Safety Report for each bridge. There is one (1) bridge in Buncombe County, five (5) bridges in Burke County, and one (1) bridge in McDowell County requiring steel beam repairs. • Buncombe Bridge 387 has two (2) beams and one (1) diaphragm requiring repair. • Burke Bridge 129 has three (3) beams requiring repair. • Burke Bridge 144 has one (1) beam requiring repair. • Burke Bridge 147 has two (2) beams requiring repair. • Burke Bridge 169 has two (2) beams and diaphragm issues requiring repair. • Burke Bridge 173 has three (3) beams requiring repair. • McDowell Bridge 143 has two (2) beams requiring repair. The permissible methods of steel beam repairs will include flame straightening and welding. Replacement of damaged diaphragm and connection plates may also be required. Removal of paint and touch-up painting after repairs will be the responsibility of the Contractor. Paint for touch up painting will be provided by the Department. There is no lead paint on any of the beams to be repaired in this contract. All required traffic control will be provided by the NCDOT. The date of availability for this contract is August 29, 2022. The completion date for this contract is February 28, 2023. Any firm that wishes to bid as a prime contractor shall be prequalified as a Bidder or PO Prime Contractor prior to submitting a bid. If the anticipated MBE/WBE participation is zero, the Contractor shall make an effort to recruit and use MBE/WBEs during the performance of the contract. Any MBE/WBE participation obtained shall be reported to the Department. The Combined MBE/WBE Goal for this project is 0.0%. Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
