Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM) is soliciting the services of qualified firms/individuals to perform building enclosure commissioning (BECx) services for Applied Sciences Building, at University of Utah. The services of this solicitation include enhanced Building Enclosure Commissioning as outlined in the 2021 DFCM High Performance Building Standard and LEED v4.1. The Applied Sciences Building will be a renovation and expansion of the existing William Stewart Building located to the south of Presidents Circle between the Crocker Science Center and Pioneer Memorial Theatre. It will be the home of the Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and include a variety of instructional and research spaces. To support student success the building will include state of the art classrooms, lecture halls, experimental laboratories, computer laboratories, student research laboratories, collaboration/interaction spaces, an observatory, planetarium, community engagement facilities, along with meeting, office and support spaces. The scope of the project includes extensive renovation of the historic 40,000 square foot Stewart Building and a new 100,000 square foot east-to-west oriented wing on its west side. The existing building is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, partly due to its exterior architectural style, materials and workmanship, thereby adding unique challenges to this project and its enclosure systems. Those challenges exist in both the preservation of the existing exterior and connection of the new wing to it. The project also includes demolition of the east wing of the James Fletcher Building along with associated modifications to the remaining building’s enclosure.
