The Stockton Animal Shelter, situated at 1575 S Lincoln Street, consists of two older large buildings, two modular buildings, two conex storage containers, and a cold box for storing deceased animals, as well as parking, landscaping, and animal play areas. Originally built in 1960, the shelter has undergone multiple expansions and renovations over time. However, there is a critical need for more space and upgrades to enhance efficiency and better cater to the community's needs. Currently, the facility operates with 18 full-time employees and 30 contract and volunteer workers, providing medical treatment for approximately 10,000 animals annually, including spay/neuter, emergency, and dental care. The Animal Shelter Renovation project will modernize the existing shelter and construct a new building under the base bid. The construction, set to begin in Fall 2024 and expected to conclude in early 2026 (spanning a 15-month period), includes the construction of a new building spanning approximately 8,100 square feet. This new structure will house a cattery, medical facilities/clinic, staff offices, restrooms, animal isolation and rehabilitation areas, employee break area, public adoption lobby/waiting area, public clinic lobby/waiting area, and a conference room. Additional improvements in the base bid consist of site work (asphalt, concrete, and landscaping), fencing, automatic gates, new electrical service, network upgrade, backup generator, and a new cold box for deceased animals. Furthermore, the shelter improvements will have alternate bid items including a façade upgrade and signage, exterior painting of the existing facility, dog isolation and rehabilitation within an existing building (approximately 750 square feet), and repurposing of existing modulars. The alternate bid also involves remodeling an area (approximately 1,050 square feet) within one of the existing large older buildings, currently used as a cattery and staff offices, into new staff offices, euthanasia area, and break room. Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
