The project is located along the Crescent Beach shoreline on the southern shore of Lake Ontario in Wayne County, New York. The Project consists of constructing several barrier rock breakwaters along Crescent Beach to reduce the recession and deterioration of the Crescent Beach barrier bar, bordering Lake Ontario to the north and Sodus Bay to the south. And to construct breach stabilization at each end of the breach to bolster resilience and stabilize the shoreline. The recession and deterioration of Crescent Beach was accelerated by high water levels, causing the low-lying barrier bars on the southeastern shore of Lake Ontario to migrate landward in recent decades. The primary objective of the Crescent Beach REDI Project is to design and construct a natural or nature‐based shoreline stabilization system that will protect Crescent Beach from Lake Ontario wave action and enhance the overall resiliency of the barrier bar. The project will also aim to enhance habitat in nearshore areas along Crescent Beach and protect the Sodus Bay ecosystem.
