The project includes construction of an all-electric central heating and cooling plant (EHCP or the Project) for the campus. The primary function of the EHCP is to provide space for the mechanical and electrical equipment that will serve the campus by distributing hot and chilled water to replace the existing co-gen natural gas steam plant. The system includes a thermal energy storage (TES) exterior steel tank that will store 2 million gallons of water. The TES tank is located southeast of the building between the Hearst Gymnasium and Anthropology & Art Practice buildings. The plant is one level, with the main entry point at the West elevation. This level also includes program area for the Facilities staff, including the control room for the plant and an open office area. The north and east sides of the building are mostly below grade. The roof will be used as a recreational field and provides at-grade egress on the north side due to the topography
