The City of Winter Park is issuing a Request for Proposals for the fabrication, construction, and installation of new playground equipment and site furnishings at the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Community Playground. Services shall include removal of existing equipment, supply of new equipment, installation, site furnishings, surfacing, and associated site work.The City of Winter Park is located in Orange County, Florida. The City is approximately nine square miles and has about 30,000 residents. Martin Luther King Jr Park, formerly Lake Island Park, is on an approximately 27.5-acre parcel and situated in a central hearth of the city. The Park is also home to the new 55,000 square-foot Winter Park Library and Events Center, which features multiple interactive areas, 120-seat performance and education space, and grand ballroom that can seat 250 people at tables or 316 theatre style. In addition to the Park, Winter Park is the home of Rollins College and several other major cultural institutions, including the Morse Museum of American Art, The Cornell Fine Arts Museum, and the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Garden, as well as music and the performing arts. The downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the city has numerous examples of outstanding architecture by noted architects. As part of the proposal, efforts should also pay special attention to detract from delivering furnishings that entice organic or inorganic nuisances (garbage, homeless, etc.). The proposer should be able to comment on how these features play into the space and constituent base, including working with the city’s consultant, Dix-Hite, on all design features, including but not limited to sidewalk, pavers, style, recommended equipment, etc., on incorporating features into the space and the park at large.
