The tunnel is constructed of concrete floors and walls. The majority of the roof of the tunnel is exposed bedrock, with boltedon wire mesh to prevent rock debris from falling. Over the years, water infiltration in the tunnel has caused deterioration of the support steel piping within the tunnel sections as well as significant mineral build ups. This Project aims to address the most significant areas of concern. Work will include: removal of existing roof and water control materials; placement of new rockbolts, shotcrete, and drainage material in specific locations; temporary removal of existing elements to make room for the new materials, and removal of existing abandoned electrical conduit.
