San Antonio Complete Streets Project, Los Altos, CA

The City has received OBAG 3 funding for the San Antonio Complete Streets Project STPL-5309(020). The project consists of protected bikeways along North San Antonio Road connecting key commercial areas, residential areas, Civic spaces, schools, the Community Center, the Library, Downtown Los Altos, new high-density housing, Caltrain, and El Camino Real transit lines. This project seeks to create safer, more comfortable streets for all users by implementing complete streets best practices, including protected bikeways, better integration between transit and bicycles, enhanced crosswalks, preservation of existing sidewalks, and narrowed vehicle lanes. This corridor is a suggested route to school for two public schools in Los Altos. It is one of the few north-south corridors that traverses the entire city. This project also includes pavement rehabilitation to restore and maintain the existing roadway network, as well as streetscape improvements, such as streetlights. The plans will comply with the latest design standard at the time the contract is executed

The project involves the preparation of a site for an interim fire station located at 2269 Alessandro Drive, covering an area of 1.9 acres. The site preparation includes soil remediation, rough grading, and concrete foundation and pavement installation. Additionally, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work will be required to support the prefabricated modular buildings, which consist of an office, an apparatus bay, and a gym. The excavation will cover a footprint of 0.67 acres to a depth of 7 feet to lower the shallow groundwater level. After dewatering the site, a 10-foot layer of compacted soil will be used to refill the excavated area according to the rough grading. The contractor will install on-site utility services and route the electricity to a city-purchased generator. To manage on-site runoff, a bio-swale will be constructed to the south of the station, directing water into the existing 12-inch storm culvert. The existing entrance driveway will be replaced with new concrete pavement. An underground sewer clarifier will also be installed on the new pavement to handle wash water from the fire trucks.

Fire Training Tower Renovation, Santa Clara, CA

In 2022, the City completed a comprehensive condition assessment of the Fire Training Tower to evaluate the impacts of long-term exposure to heat, fire, and water, as well as general wear from nearly 30 years of continuous use. The assessment identified deterioration and deficiencies including, but not limited to, corrosion and damage to interior stair systems, concrete cracking and spalling, degradation of fire-resistant materials in burn rooms, electrical system exposure issues, drainage deficiencies, and potential building code and seismic vulnerabilities. Based on the findings of the assessment, the City now intends to advance the project into the design and construction phase. This Request for Proposals seeks qualified consultant services to evaluate the current site, perform necessary hazard sampling and testing, and develop design documents based on, but not limited to, the recommendations of the prior condition assessment, including preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates suitable for bidding and construction. This project is funded through Measure I, a voter-approved general obligation bond measure approved by Santa Clara voters in November 2024. Measure I provides funding for the repair, replacement, and modernization of critical City infrastructure and public safety facilities, including fire stations. The project is subject to all applicable Measure I requirements, including use-of-funds restrictions and oversight provisions
